green&easy (MrSPOC scolarship by Career Centers of Hochschule Offenburg)

Green & Easy was a mobile app project I worked on, designed to promote sustainable living and environmentally conscious habits. Built using React Native for the frontend and Node.js for the backend, the app aimed to provide users with practical tools and information to make greener choices in their daily lives.

Features and Goals

The app offered a variety of features to empower users:

  • Local Farmers' Market Finder: A map-based feature to locate nearby farmers’ markets and sustainable shops.
  • Practical Tips: Daily advice and guides on reducing waste, saving energy, and making eco-friendly purchases.
  • Interactive Maps: Integration with mapping services to help users find sustainable resources in their area.
  • Educational Content: Insights and suggestions for eco-conscious consumption and behavior.

Development and Challenges

During development, we focused on creating a seamless user experience while integrating robust backend functionality. The React Native framework enabled us to build a cross-platform app efficiently, while the Node.js backend powered the data management and API endpoints. Despite the promising concept and initial development progress, the project faced significant hurdles, particularly in securing long-term funding.

Lessons Learned

Although Green & Easy didn’t reach full implementation due to financial challenges, it was a valuable learning experience. I gained practical knowledge in mobile app development, API integration, and the complexities of managing a project with real-world impact. This experience reinforced the importance of securing sustainable funding and community support for innovative projects.
